SCIENTIFIC AND MEDICAL FILMS: LAST CALL FOR PROPOSALS
JOIN US AT DALLAS THIS NOVEMBER
I am finalising the Scientific and medical films area for the 2006
Documentary Tradition Conference, 8-12 November 2006 at the Dolce
Conference Center, Dallas
http://www.h-net.org/~filmhis/conference_events/index.htm
Currently we have the following confirmed speakers and topics:
Gaycken, Oliver, "The School of the Future: Science Documentary and the
Thomas Edison Company."
Ostherr, Kirsten, “Visual Pedagogy in Action: Unhooking the Hookworm
(1920)”
Posner, Miriam, “Writing on the Brain: Points of Intersection in
Neurosurgery and Documentary”
Rogers, Naomi, “This picture shall explain the reason why”: Sister
Elizabeth Kenny and the Medical Documentary as Scientific Confirmation,
1940-1948”
Boon, Tim, “Films of Fact: The fate of scientific film genres”
I think we are going to have some fantastic sessions and am issuing this
last invitation to anyone who would like to join us explore the rich and
under-researched history of the scientific and medical film.
The original rubric, which I have broadened to respect the interesting
proposals that have come in, is available at:

net.org/~filmhis/conference_events/cfp_2006/genres_styles_aesthetics/chairs

Please send your proposals (300 words) to me by 12th August.
Please also note I shall be out of e-mail contact until 8th August.
Many thanks,
Tim
