Dear Eva,
You can find information about digital collections and associated resources (websites, elearning materials etc) available from museums in the UK via MICHAEL UK: http://www.michael-culture.org.uk/.
We are still in the process of developing the MICHAEL inventory, at the moment consultants are contacting institutions to invite them to update their entries and register new resources. I anticipate that the inventory will grow rapidly over the next few months, but it already provides a starting point to identify examples of the uses of new media in UK museums. Similar projects are underway in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Malta...
If anyone reading this would like to find out how to register a digital resource with MICHAEL (or more about the project), please send me an email off list.
With best wishes,
Kate

Subject: Question: Innovative use of new technologies in UK museums?
Dear list members
I am working in a research project dealing with learning in museums by
way of new technologies. The project is undertaken at the Knowledge
Media Research Center in Tuebingen, Germany, together with the Deutsches
Museum in Munich and a pedagogic research institute in Kiel. Our focus
is particularly on the recontextualisation of objects using new
technologies. We are currently trying to get an overview on the status
quo of the use of new media in museums, but especially for the UK our
information is rather scarce.
This is why I hope you might be willing to give me some hints as to
which museums in the UK and/or worldwide, in your opinion, make use of
new technologies in their exhibitions in a particularly good and/or
innovative way.
Thank you very much for your assistance. Please do not hesitate to let
me know if you want further information about our research. I am looking
forward to hearing from you.
With kind regards
Eva Reussner
