Taking our more topical description for publication will be appreciated too!
Interoperability and interconnectivity of services, systems and media
manifestations is the theme of the Annual EUSIDIC Conference, which will be held 9 -
11 April 2006, Innsbruck, Austria. The information industry needs to support
its customers. That's because customers are under pressure to do their jobs
more efficiently and effectively. They would no longer pay for services and
products which do not serve their purpose. The information industry has to build
value through partnerships and customers are partners. Understanding customer
needs is a key factor for success and means customer involvement from the
beginning with "the customers' fingerprints all over the product". The emphasis of
this EUSIDIC high-level information industry conference is on networking with
and access to the players in the industry. Receptions and dinners in delightful
places support delegates knowledge enhancement by learning some concepts,
such as · Interoperability: The ability of a system or product to work with
other system environments or products without a special effort on the part of the
user and your customer's infrastructure · Interconnectivity: 3rd party
products fit in software for enterprise solutions and resources · Integration:
There is more to do than you think. Interdisciplinary, type of information,
types of media, of information and knowledge, in the community and in B2B
services. Think of enterprise solutions and intranet delivery, think of Electronic
Resources Management (ERM) · Portals: According to an ARL definition, an
application which provides cross-searching or meta-search and one other service.
Could such a thing offer a solution for the granularity issue… ? · Granularity:
Like grains or granules. Precisely fitting to the user's needs: the "myFile
issue" in combination with maximizing the productive time of users ·
Fragmentation and Proliferation issues, like Open Archive Initiatives Presentations
include all aspects of the information chain, ILS (integrated library systems and
portals), content - OAIS/archiving, integration & delivery, links (OpenURL),
federated and meta-searching access to metadata of digitized material and to
external resources and Digital Rights/Digital Objects Management systems
(DRM/DOMS).
