APPLICATIONS TO ENHANCE INFORMATION PROVISION: WEB BLOGGS AND WIKIS
4 May 2006, London
In the last six months a huge number of tools have started to appear on the internet that make it easier for a library to provide information to client groups more easily and more effective than ever before. Not only do these tools mean that the library can do a better outreach job, but they allow the information professional to share their expertise as an expert with colleagues, clients and indeed everyone.
This workshop will examine many of these tools in a practical manner, allowing participants to explore ways in which shared search techniques, social bookmarking, saved data, wikis and other applications not only promote the information centre, but provide a richness and depth of information to their users that has not been possible until now.
As participants will need to register with various utilities they should have access to a web based email account such as Hotmail or Gmail if they are unable to access their usual work/home email accounts.
WHO WILL BENEFIT BY ATTENDING?
Those who have attended the beginners workshop and those who have had responsibility for current awareness or SDS for at least 3 years and/or those who need to promote their services.
BY THE END OF DAY PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
¨ enhanced their use of weblogs
¨ learnt how to use advanced information handling tools
¨ looked at the latest developments
¨ explored further practical methods to avoid duplication of output
