Dear Colleagues

The call for entries for the Learning on Screen Awards 2006, organised by
the British Universities Film & Video Council (BUFVC) in collaboration with
the former Society for Screen-Based Learning, has now been released.  The
organisers are keen to encourage a strong field of entries from developers,
producers and distributors engaging in screen-based learning across all
levels of education - both formal and non-formal.

The Learning on Screen Awards celebrate and reward excellence in the
production of effective learning material which employs moving image, sound
and graphics.  The scheme is open to new content produced for broadcast, for
online delivery or for distribution on physical media - CD, DVD or
videocassette.  The three main categories for entries are:

    General Education
    Course and Curriculum-Related Content
    Student Production

There are also Special Jury Awards and a Premier Award for outstanding
achievement. 

The awards will be presented at a ceremony during a dinner to be held on
19th September 2006.  This is part of the Learning on Screen Conference
taking place at The Custard Factory in Birmingham on 19th and 20th September

Themes of the two-day conference are:  Virtual Learning Environments -
embedding moving images - open source or proprietary?, Large Scale Video and
Sound Digitisation Projects - updates and demonstrations, Pod-casting and
Interactive Television - what value in education?  There will also be a
parallel screenings programme.

Entries for the Learning on Screen Awards must be submitted on or before 2nd
May 2006.  The Awards entry form, and further information about categories,
