Dear all,
I have been asked by my colleague to find out if any of you have a system of allowing users to collect their own reservations and if so what are the problems arising from such a system.
We have limited space behind our library counter so are thinking of putting the reservations in our overnight loan room for students to collect themselves. They are all e- mailed when the reservations are waiting collection and to leave the room with the books they would have to self issue them or the security alarm would go off. As it is a small room with very little space to study the possibilities for hiding the books are limited.
It occurred to me that there might be Data Protection issues if we put books on the shelf with people's names on them. Would this be a problem and can you identify any other issues? I understand that some libraries already operate this system and I would be very pleased to hear from you. Please reply to me and I will summarise for the list.
Many thanks for any help,
Ruth Charlton
