MANAGING A DISTRIBUTED TEAM
6 June 2006, London
Building teams that are competitive and responsive to current needs often necessitates gathering together people with wide-ranging skills and experiences. This can mean assembling teams that are made up of people from different professional or technical backgrounds, part-time and flexible staff and people who work across different times and/or locations.
The complexity of such teams can bring particular challenges for those responsible for managing them. This workshop explores different approaches that may be adopted in order to manage distributed teams and looks at how shared goals, clear direction, mutual trust and respect can be successfully established among dispersed team members.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
· explored the particular challenges presented by managing a distributed team
· considered a framework for managing complex teams, including: creating a sense of belonging, balancing the needs of task and team, communication for teamwork, keeping work on track, and dealing with difficulties within their teams
· exchanged ideas and approaches
· started to prepare an action plan
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Library and information managers who are responsible for managing distributed teams.
