* With Apologies for Cross Posting *
Since I launched the Book Cloud website, I've had a mixture of responses
about it's usefulness. The University of Abertay Dundee listed it as Website
of the Week (week commencing 5th July) whereas posts to a library student
community forum described it as "completely useless". I am still unsure
about whether as a tool it has any "legs", so to speak. The effectiveness of
it (if it has any) and my ability to assess it's usefulness depends entirely
on books being added to the database and high quality tags being added.
Before I decide whether this experimental website is worth developing any
further, I really do need to get more, and more varied, books into the
database.
To this end, I am offering an incentive of a New Ipod (the one with video
playback). All books that meet the draw eligibiility criteria will be
entered into the draw. The draw will take place on the 31st October 2006.
Draw Rules:
- Each book added increases your chance of winning.
- Books already added will not be entered twice into the draw - if
that book wins, the first person to have added it is the winner.
- Books that have fewer than 5 keywords do not qualify for the draw.
- Books added with irrelevant or meaningless keywords do not qualify
for the draw (the judgement of the website owner being final in this
regard).
- On the 31st October 2006, a book which has at least 4 high quality
keywords that was added to the database on or after the 14th August 2006 by
a user who specified a valid email address will be selected at random (by
the MySQL RAND() function).
- The first person to have added that title will be the winner. They
will be contacted by email within 7 days. The winner will receive a 30GB New
Ipod (with Video Playback). They can choose the white or the black model.
- If the prize is unclaimed by the 30th November, a second random book
will be chosen and the person who added that will be the winner. This
process will continue each month til the prize is claimed
- The website owner (Steve Burgess), his friends, colleagues and
relatives are not eligible to enter the draw.
- There will only be one prize and a cash alternative will not be
available. The Ipod will be brand new and unopened
Best regards,
Steve Burgess
