Press Release: Laser Foundation supports Library Fellow
The Laser Foundation[i] <outbind://128/#_edn1> is delighted to be
sponsoring a rising star, Zoinul Abidin as he takes up the Clore
Fellowship[ii] <outbind://128/#_edn2> , an exciting one year programme
designed to help develop the skills and experience of potential leaders
in the cultural sector.
Zoinul, who works for The Ideas Store in Tower Hamlets as an Ideas Store
Manager, is one of 25 Fellows chosen by a panel of experts this year,
one of only two who come from the libraries and information world. Over
the course of the year, he will undertake an individually tailored
programme of activities and experiences designed specifically to
complement his abilities.
The range of elements in the programme include: a period of research on
a specific project of practical value to his area of work; tuition,
including in business, management, personnel, presentation, marketing,
and professional skills; a period of secondment to a cultural
organisation completely different from the one in which he is currently
working; and two intensive two-week leadership courses, which will bring
all the Fellows together. Each Fellow has an individual mentor (a senior
figure from their chosen field), and access to coaching where
appropriate.
Zoinul is delighted to receive this opportunity and said 'this is a life
time opportunity for me to develop my existing skills, knowledge and
experience. Most importantly taking forward the challenges the library
world faces. The Laser Foundation Fellowship will enable me to transform
my energies and passion in taking the public library world to new
heights'.
Lord Smith, Director of the Clore Leadership Programme said: "Zoinul
impressed us enormously when he came for interview for his Fellowship.
During the year ahead, with Laser's support, he will be able to develop
his skills, experience, knowledge and confidence; and in the future he
will be better able to make an important contribution to the world of
libraries and information".

initiative of the Clore Duffield Foundation, whose aim is to help to
train and develop a new generation of leaders for the cultural sector
here in the UK. Each year the Programme assists a number of Clore
Fellows to undertake an individual programme of learning, work,
research, training, and secondment, designed to develop their leadership
skills and experience. The Clore Duffield Foundation also aims to report
more widely on its work, to disseminate the lessons learnt, and to speak
out more generally as advocates for cultural leadership and excellence.
