APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING
The Essex Book Festival - partnership and promotion
Date: Tuesday 14 November 2006
Time: 6.30 pm
Venue: The Sekforde Arms, Sekforde Street, London EC1
Speaker: Alan Stevens, Essex County Libraries
The annual Essex Book Festival is a magnet for both new and best-selling
authors - often with an unexpected Essex link. The event is a huge draw for
readers, bookshops and media organisations in the region. Not only does it
cover mainstream writing but reaches out to minority and disabled groups,
as well as those in prisons and sheltered housing. The festival, which is a
partnership between district councils, voluntary groups and the media, is
managed by the County Library Service for which it provides excellent PR
(and, for this, it won a Library Association award).
Alan will explain how the Festival developed and discuss how, through its
partnerships, it promotes library services.
Alan Stevens has been with Essex County Council Libraries since 1988, and
has worked on the Essex Book Festival from its early stages. He has been one
of the Service Development Officers for Reader Development since May 2004.
CILIP in London evening meetings are free and open to all with a
professional interest in the topic. Refreshments will be available
afterwards. As space is limited, please let us know if you are coming. It
would be helpful to tell us how you found out about the event. Contact
