Hi
I don;'t think this is a daft question at all. I asked the same one at a
Chartership meeting too. I gained some valuable professional type
experience in my post as a library assistant in cataloguing and staff
supervision etc. and wanted to know if I could use this. While I was in
this post I was also studying part time for my MA, and thought that the
experience I had gained would be useful.
However, at this meeting (I believe it was the CILIP run preparing for
chartership) I did ask if I could use this experience, but was told that I
should include the experience gained within my training period for
chartership (in my understanding the point from registration to the end of
the training period outlined in your PPDP) which would be underatken now I
am in a professional post. I am able to include experience from my current
professional post as I have been in it for 2 years, but not the pre
qualification experience. However, I was told that I would be able to
include my pre qualification experince in my CV which can be up to 4 pages
long, so there's potentially quite a bit of space to include the
responsibilities and skills gained in my pre-qualification posts then
I hope this makes sense and helps, I believe it was Michael Martin who
answered my question, but you might want to email CILIP just to double
check that I have got this right.
Good luck
Mandy
