The Guide we have been preparing to assist when reviewing
literature for
use in HIA is now ready but will not be available until it has
been sent
for peer-review by DH.
This will not happen until they receive our final report.
We cannot write our final report until we have finished the project.
The second part of the project was to appraise five existing
reviews
(useful for HIA) that are not widely available, using the Guide.
I therefore need, really urgently offers of people to do an
appraisal
(there's a fee of a few hundred pounds - depends on the length
of the
review).
I also need another review or two to appraise.
*It doesn't need to be gold standard!* It needs to be something
that you
think is reasonable, given the constraints (of time, people, other
resources) under which you did it, and reflects what people are
actually
doing in a real-life HIA.
If it is deemed 'of sufficient quality', we would then like to
put the
review and the appraisal onto one or more websites (eg NICE HIA
Gateway;
LHO) with the review authors' permission.
FYI - The Guide gives minimum standards for a 'brief' review and
also
contains further elements that could be included, given the
necessary
resources, for a 'more comprehensive' review. We're not aiming at
Cochrane-standard sytematic reviews, just trying to help people
involved
in HIA improve the standard of literature reviews used in HIA.
If you think that's not necessary, because you've done good ones
that
don't need improving, please send them to us!
I'd appreciate hearing from you asap as the DH is breathing down
my neck
and as, until this is all done, we can't get permission to print
and
distribute the Guide (which I know that at least some of you hve
been
asking for!)
Please repy to me at [log in to unmask]
Thanks,
Jenny
