The British Universities Film & Video Council’s annual Learning on Screen
conference takes place on 19 and 20 September 2006 at the Old Library in
the Custard Factory in Birmingham’s revolutionary new arts and media
quarter in the city’s regeneration zone. Learning on Screen promotes and
celebrates excellence in the production, study and use of moving pictures
and related media in teaching, learning, training and research. The event
provides an excellent meeting place for teachers, librarians, broadcasters,
digital media producers, distributors, service providers, and technology
vendors.

This year’s conference themes are:

Virtual Learning Environments – embedding moving pictures – proprietary or
open source?
Large Scale Video and Sound Digitisation Projects – updates and
demonstrations
Copyright – exceptions, licensing and the delivery and use of content
Pod-casting and Interactive Television – their possible value in learning
and teaching

Speakers include Stuart Dempster (JISC Digitisation Programme), Ian Dolphin
(SAKAI Project), Ray Lawrence (howtomoodle), Sol Picciotto (Law Department,
University of Lancaster), Charles Oppenheim (Department of Information
Studies, University of Loughborough), and David Smith (Real Networks). Also
taking place on 19 September will be the Learning on Screen Awards ceremony
and dinner, hosted by Robert Llewellyn (HOLLYWOOD SCIENCE, RED DWARF,
SCRAPHEAP CHALLENGE) and Dr Jonathan Hare (HOLLYWOOD SCIENCE, ROUGH
SCIENCE).

Full booking details can be found at
http://www.bufvc.ac.uk/learningonscreen. All those signing up for the
conference will automatically be entered in to a draw to win an iPod nano.
