**** SCHOLARSHIPS for MSc in GIS at University of Leicester ****
The Postgraduate Diploma & MSc in Geographical Information Science (GIS) at the University of Leicester has been established since 1988 and is highly-regarded nationally and internationally. It has recently been allocated the largest number of NERC studentships of any GIS course in the United Kingdom.
Scholarships are available each year up until 2009 from the National Environment Research Council (NERC). These cover the course fees and a maintenance payment. Other funding may be available from the University of Leicester.
Centre of Excellence: SPLINT
GIS teaching at the University of Leicester was the primary recipient and lead site of a recent £3.9m award from the Higher Education Funding Council for a Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) develop Spatial Literacy IN Teaching (SPLINT).
World Class Facilities
Through SPLINT the Department has received £650k for GIS-related computer laboratory refurbishment and software purchase. These include state-of-the-art class and field based Virtual Reality and computing facilities.
Our M.Sc./Diploma in GIS provides excellent training in handling and analysis of geographic information. The teaching of these technical skills is complemented by a thorough grounding in the academic theory of GI. The course includes:
