Purpose of the job
The high profile forecast for the 2005/6 winter has highlighted the
importance of European winter prediction. Working in the Climate
Variability section in the Hadley Centre, the job holder will carry out
investigations that will lead to improved skill in dynamical and
statistical seasonal forecasting systems for the European/UK region.
Person specification
Essential
- A good degree (2:2 or above) in mathematics, physics, meteorology or
other related scientific subject
- Good scientific computing skills (ideally Fortran/Linux)
- Very good communication skills, both written and oral
- A high level of self motivation
Desirable
- Research experience (PhD or equivalent level would be desirable)
- A strong interest in climate and climate variability
- Experience working with numerical models of the atmosphere or ocean
- Experience with data visualisation/processing packages
- Scientific writing and presentation skills
Salary: £17,837 - £27,289
