This year's annual Institutional Web Management Workshop will take place at
the University of Bath on 14-16 June. The event, although aimed primarily
at the higher and further educational sectors, may also be of interest to
the wider cultural heritage community (who form part of UKOLN's key user
communities).
These year's event addresses several areas which may be of interest to those
involved in elearning in a cultural heritage sector including:
o The potential for Web 2.0 technologies to support a variety of
activities
o A strategic approach to use of Web 2.0
o Issues regaining quality, openness, risk assessment, etc.
There are also several talks and parallel sessions which may be of
particular interest to the library/museums/archives sector such as:
o Paul Miller, technology evangelist at Talis (and former UKOLN employee
and CIE Director), Don Young (Amazon) and Scott Wilson (CETIS) on Web 2.0:
Behind the Hype.
O Workshop session on (a) Getting your Hands Dirty with Podcasting (b)
Writing for the Web (by from Jon Pratty, 24 hour museum); (c) Using Web
Services to Support e-Learning; (d) Archiving the Web: What can Institutions
learn from National and International Web Archiving Initiatives and (e) User
Testing on a Shoestring Budget.
As well as a rich social programme (reception at the Roman Baths, conference
meal) delegates will also receive a "QA For Web" handbook.
