This question was discussed by BDA members recently.
I have permission to forward these responses.
Steve O'Brien, Adult Dyslexia Access,
Liverpool, can offer such assessment.
http://www.dyslexia-check.co.uk/
Dr Chris Singleton, University of Hull, suggests
1) Verbal IQ using WAIS-III
2) Auditory working memory and story memory using Wechsler Memory Scales
(WMS)
3) Phonological skills using CTOPP
He added:
The information from the above should be combined with information on
reading and writing skills in braille obtained from the college.
If it turns out that the memory and/or phonological skills
are significantly poorer than would be
predicted by the WAIS-III result,
it is highly likely that he or she has dyslexia.
The picture that emerges from investigation of the literacy skills
should provide confirmation.
The Psychological Assessment Unit at Hull would be prepared to undertake
such an assessment (contact Jan Trotter on 01482 466153).
