DPC Briefing day on OAIS model
Date: 4th April 2006
Venue: Innovation Centre York Science Park, York, England
Cost: Free
Places are still available for this briefing day which will provide an
informal but in-depth look at the practical implementation of the Open
Archival Information System [OAIS] model in the UK. OAIS is a high-level
reference model which describes the functions of a digital archive and has
been used as a model for a number of digital archiving repositories. It is now
a recognized and highly-prominent international standard.
The intention of this briefing day is to understand how the model works and
how it can be applied. Speakers from The National Archives, UK Data Archive,
AHDS and the Archaeology Data Service will provide a valuable overview of how
each institution has interpreted and applied this archiving model. Issues such
as how to apply the model, and what exactly is a ‘well-founded’ repository
will be discussed in a panel-session at the end of the day.
This event will be of relevance to DPC members working on digital repositories
and archives.
