Subject: Invitation to join ECREA (with apologies for cross-posting)
Dear participant to the First European Communication Conference (Amsterdam),
As announced during the conference, the two European Communication Studies organisations ECA and ECCR have decided to join forces and merge into ECREA, the European Communication Research and Education Association. ECREA has become the European organisation that brings together and represents the academic Communication Studies community.
As 2006 unfolds and ECREA continues to grow and develop its activities, we would like to invite you to become a member (if you're not already an ECREA member).
ECREA has three categories of membership:
a) Individual members: all persons who are active in the field of communication research or education. This also applies to persons living outside Europe who are conducting research into communication in Europe. Each individual member carries one vote. Their membership fee is 50 EUR (10 EUR for first year members and members from soft-currency countries, 35 EUR for junior scholars)
b) Institutional members: legal bodies such as universities with relevant departments, legal bodies with relevant policy departments and legal bodies with professional research from all parts of Europe, which are concerned with media and communications research or dedicate all or part of their activity to such research. Each institutional member can nominate 10 of its faculty plus a coordinator as members of ECREA. Each institutional member is entitled to five votes. Their membership fee is 250 EUR (50 EUR for first year members and members from soft-currency countries)
c) Associate institutional members: the association may confer the status of associate institutional member upon organizations, which are legally established in their country of origin and whose aims are connected with those of the Association. An Associate member has no vote. Their membership fee is 0 EUR.
More information about ECREA can be found at the provisional ECREA website at http://www.eccr.info/ecrea/.
The membership application forms can be found from http://www.eccr.info/ecrea/membership.html.
We also invite you to join our mailing list (still accessible to non-members). Simply send an e-mail to [log in to unmask] with "subscribe ecrea" in the BODY of the message (NOT the subject area).
One more thing about the conference: Sandra Zwier and Wim Elving of ASCOR have conducted a survey among ECC2005 participants. Their full report is available at
http://www.eccr.info/ecrea/ECC.html
Please feel free to contact ECREA's General-Secretary Annaleena Ylinen at [log in to unmask]
We cordially encourage you to join ECREA and the emerging community of European communication researchers and educators. Note that if you decide not to join ECREA, you will not hear again from us, at least until we announce the next European Communication Conference!

Pertti Hurme, Vice-president
