My mate's employer is not my employer, though. Thus I do not consent to
this processing because I am not subject to their policies. And the first
quarantining was on my inbound mail to them, without notice.
They also work in an environment where formal and informal words for (eg)
body parts are used often, and can trigger the quarantine for normal
professional emails

I would suggest that your employer and your mate's employer will no doubt
have a Policy on Use of E-Mail etc. and no doubt it should not be used for
personal use (even although some of it may be business)but if you do choose
to send a semi-personal e-mail then surely that is your choice and perhaps
even consent....
Sorry - it's been a long day.

Subject: Email quarantine systems
I have someone I correspond with regularly on business matters. We are also
good friends and digress. We unashamedly "Futz" (A Gartner term meaning do
things that are not employment based) from time to time, in a manner similar
to a long distance water cooler conversation.
Sometimes our emails contain words that their content filter picks up and
rejects. Oddly these are not the blacklist words one might expect.
Several words, used often enough in the text, cause the emails to be
quarantined.
This happens frequently.
This means that my personal data is logged on their employer's system as a
persistent "quarantine offender". I'm willing to bet that this is recorded
in some database within their email system. I have not been informed of
this - I am assuming.
I have not given permission for my details to be stored in this manner.
The question is, "Does this break any part of the DPA?"
I absolutely do not consent to this processing.
