Closing date for applications: 1 September 2006.
Department of Computing, Faculty of Mathematics & Computing, The Open
University, UK
£24,161 - £26,402, Ref: 2953
Based in Milton Keynes, UK
One year contract from 1 October 2006
The Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Research Group is seeking a
postdoctoral researcher to work on an e-learning project in the area of
blogs. The project is jointly funded by the Faculty of Maths and Computing
and the Virtual Learning Environment programme of the Open University. The
research work will be carried out in close collaboration with industrial and
academic collaborators.
The aim of the research project is to investigate the role and pedagogical
effectiveness of blogs in learning and teaching within a distance-learning
context and in web-based e-learning environments. You will apply both
qualitative and quantitative research methods to investigate two web-based
courses where blogging is an integral part of the student's learning and
assessment.
You should have a Ph.D. in HCI, Psychology, Social Sciences, or a related
discipline. However, candidates who are otherwise suitably qualified and
have considerable experience in applying information technology in
distance-education will be considered. Previous research experience or
research training at post-graduate level using social research methods is
essential. Experience of conducting remote evaluations of interactive
systems would be an added advantage.
For detailed information and how to apply go to www3.open.ac.uk/employment,

Disabled applicants who meet the essential job requirements will be
interviewed. Further particulars are available in large print, disk or

welcome applications from all sections of the community
