INTRODUCTION
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The 6th International Conference on Recent Advances in Soft Computing,
RASC2006, will be hosted by the Department of Electronics at the University
of Kent, Canterbury, UK, on 10, 11 and 12 July 2006.

RASC 2006 is intended to provide a forum for researchers and engineers to
report key advancements and exchange state-of-the-art knowledge and
experience in the field of "Soft Computing". The conference will cover the
theory and application of soft computing techniques namely; Fuzzy Logic and
Systems, Neural Networks, Hybrid Systems, Genetic Algorithms, Evolutionary
Computing, Smart Adaptive Systems, and Intelligent Systems.

The organising committee of the conference encourages young researchers and
research students to participate in this non-commercial event by offering
discounted registration fees.

RASC 2006 - SPECIAL THEME: Computational Intelligence in Multiple Classifier
Systems
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This year RASC will have also a special theme which will focus on the use of
intelligent techniques for multi-source information processing and fusion,
such as the recently introduced multiple classifier systems, with particular
focus on applications of such system which can exemplify the need for
diverse intelligent algorithms to address particular complex domains.
Examples of such domains can be found within the field of visual information
processing and related engineering applications, such as the
biometrics-based systems identification / authentication security systems.

By its nature soft computing encompasses a wide diversity of techniques and
applications and it is hoped that this diversity will be exhibited in the
papers accepted. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
o Fuzzy Logic and Systems
o Multiple Classifier Systems
o Ensembles of Classifiers
o Neural Network Ensembles
o Neural Networks
o Biologically Inspired Algorithms
o Artificial Immune Systems
o Swarm Intelligence
o Hybrid Systems
o Genetic Algorithms
o Evolutionary Computing
o Smart Engineering
o Smart Adaptive Systems
o Intelligent Control Systems
o Neuro-Fuzzy Systems
o Fuzzy Decision Making
o Genetic Programming
o Fuzzy Modelling
o Optimization
o Learning Algorithms and Training
o Rough Sets and Data Mining

Application areas may include, but are not limited to:

o Intelligent Biometrics
o Multimodal Biometrics
o Intelligent techniques in Image Processing
o Artificial Intelligence in Computer Vision
o Signal Processing
o Robots and Agents
o Databases
o Medicine
o Information Systems
o Networking
o Engineering Design and Manufacturing
o Financial Services
o Data Analysis
o Multimedia Systems
o E-commerce and E-learning
o Process Monitoring and Diagnosis

IMPORTANT DATES

o Notification of Acceptance: March 30, 2006

o Final Manuscript Due: April 30, 2006

o Special Session Proposal: March 30, 2006

o Early Registration Deadline: May 15, 2006

o Conference: July 10 - 12, 2006

SPECIAL SESSIONS
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Proposal for special sessions or workshops are welcome. Prospective
organisers are requested to send a session proposal to the Chair of the
conference as soon as possible and not later than March 30, 2006. A session
should consist of 4-5 papers. The registration fee of the session organizer
will be waived, if at least 4 authors of invited papers register to the
conference.

EXHIBITIONS
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
RASC2006 invites companies and research institutions interested in soft
computing to take part in the exhibition to be held on July 10-12, 2006.
Book companies publishing in these areas are particularly welcome.
For further information, please contact the Conference Secretariat
([log in to unmask]).

o One copy of Conference Proceedings on CD-ROM
o Coffee/Refreshments during breaks
o Lunch for the three days of the conference
o Welcome Reception on 9th July 2006
o Conference Banquet

Registration Fees:

Standard Rate: £270.00
Student Rate+ : £170.00

+ Proof of student status (e.g. student ID) should be provided at
registration.

STUDENT AWARD
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The organising committee will award a cash prize of £100 for the best and
£75 for the second and third best student paper presented in the conference.

CONFERENCE VENUE
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The Conference will be hosted by the Department of Electronics at the
University of Kent. The City of Canterbury with its magnificent and renowned
Cathedral is located approximately 56 miles south east of London and can be
easily accessed by Road, Rail and Air. It has also excellent connection to
Paris and Brussels via the Eurostar Ashford International Rail Station.
Details about how to reach Canterbury will be provided at the Conference
WebSite.
