Hi everyone, please see question from Susanne below (I was wondering about exactly the same question myself, in fact). If anyone wishes to respond please email Susanne directly ([log in to unmask]) instead of the list, and then Susanne will email us a short summary of the information she gathers so that we can all learn something about these unknown and mysterious figures in cultural sociology who are apparently our colleagues. Thanks, Ingie

Dear list members
Regarding the new journal 'Cultural Sociology' and the list of topics for the journal (see below), I was wondering if anybody could recommend
articles, internet forums etc. which discuss the differences between Social Anthropology and the Sociology of Culture/Cultural sociology. This might sound like a naïve question since the topics listed below are an integral part of anthropological research and discourse, but I was wondering whether maybe Cultural Sociology has a very different approach to them.
Thanks very much and best wishes,
Susanne Wessendorf

CALL FOR PAPERS
NEW JOURNAL IN 2007:

Cultural Sociology

A Journal of the British Sociological Association (BSA)

First issue March 2007

View further information and the Call for Papers at
http://www.britsoc.co.uk/publications/CUS.htm

Culture has always been a key issue for sociology, right from its very
inception. But in the last two decades or so, and for a variety of reasons,
cultural processes and artefacts have come to be particularly central in
sociological thinking and research. Yet up until now, there has been no
journal specifically dedicated to cultural sociology and the sociology of
culture.

Cultural Sociology is the first journal explicitly to be dedicated to the
sociological comprehension of cultural matters. It will act as a key meeting
point for sociological analysts of culture coming from a wide range of
theoretical and methodological positions, and from a great variety of
national contexts. It will be a locale where different analytical traditions
in cultural sociology and the sociology of culture can engage with and learn
from each other.

Cultural Sociology will publish innovative, sociologically-informed work
concerned with cultural processes and artefacts, broadly defined. Papers
dealing with more empirical, or more methodological, or more
theoretical issues are welcome. The journal will promote and consolidate
the field of sociological understandings of culture, and will be pivotal in
defining both what this field is like currently and what it could become in
the future. Although focused on sociological contributions to cultural
analysis, it will encourage dialogue between sociologists and others working
in cognate fields such as cultural studies, gender studies, postcolonial
studies, art history, history, literary and film studies, human geography
and so on. The journal is keen to encourage submissions from both
established and emerging scholars.

Cultural Sociology is now seeking articles for early issues of the journal.
Please contact the Editors listed below for full submission details.

Editors:
David Inglis and Andrew Blaikie University of Aberdeen, UK

North American Editor:
Robin Wagner-Pacifici Swarthmore College, USA

Articles should be between 5000 and 8000 words. Book reviews should be
between 800 and 1500 words. Authors will be asked to provide a CD or
diskette of the final version. Submissions will be refereed anonymously by
at least two referees. The journal uses the Harvard system of referencing
with authors name and date in the text, and a full reference in
alphabetical order at the end of the article.

All submissions should be sent electronically (preferably as Microsoft Word
documents) to: [log in to unmask] or Cultural Sociology, Dept. of
Sociology, School of Social Sciences, University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen AB24
3QY, United Kingdom.
