RT6068B), Economist / Financial Analyst (ref RT6068C)
c. £42 - 45K
The National Audit Office is Central Government's external auditor. Our
work includes reporting to Parliament on the value for money achieved by
Government departments and agencies, and our reports are used as the basis
of hearings by the House of Commons' Committee of Public Accounts.
The Value for Money (VFM) Development team at the NAO provides advice,
support, guidance and training to staff working on VFM studies across all
areas of government activity. They oversee the quality assurance of this
work and provide senior management support on technical VFM issues and VFM
policy and strategy.
The Team are looking to expand into a new and exciting area which will
provide a unique opportunity for individuals to help shape and develop the
way in which the NAO collects and collates study data in the future. We are
therefore looking to recruit statisticians, social researchers and
economists with a strong track record of collecting, collating and
analysing large administrative and survey databases to provide high quality
complex analysis for NAO staff working on VFM studies.
The main responsibilities of the posts are to:
* Liaise with study teams, government departments and agencies, and public
and private sector organisations to identify, collect and collate
performance, cost and contextual data required for VFM studies.
* Carry out complex data analysis for value for money studies, provide
advice on the use of analytical methods, and contribute to on-going
methodological and developmental work.
* Assist in the VFM quality assurance programme assessing the robustness of
the proposed methods of data collection and analysis, and suggesting
constructive ways in which the methodology base can be improved.
The successful applicants will have a first or upper second class degree
and/or post graduate qualification in a relevant subject, first class
analytical and IT skills to apply to relevant audit issues and methodologies
and excellent communication skills.
