Some of my colleagues at Wishaw put a study together that looked at this,
which will be published in the Annals early in 2007. See the letter in the

Subject: Further observations on eGFR
I had cause to visit my GP this morning and apropos of something we
discussed
eGFR. In my humble but admittedly limited experience eGFR is almost as good
as
a random number generator. My GP told me that in her experience she always
repeats the measurement if the first eGFR calculation has been made on a
creatinine from an overnight fasted samples. Use of a sample taken later in
the
day after fluid intake almost invariably results in a significant
improvement
in the eGFR. I tentatively propose the term TeGFR for this new measurement.
Two important questions arise from this observation. Firstly except for
those
analytes clearly altered by meals is there a risk in using fasting samples?
Secondly when should samples for eGFR be taken, if ever?
Over to you.
Happy Christmas to you all
