On that note...
See www.geocities.com/sonyasoffice.... an exhibition in London last year.
As an archaeologist working with an established artist for this piece, I found
an interesting tension created by presenting assemblages in a building which
was due for demolition. The sculptor, Richard Ducker (it was his lawyer wife's
office) viewed the space as a gallery in which his work could be seen and
critiqued; for me it was also as an extension of my Silicon Valley take on
temporary technologies. The building was being pulled down because was cheaper
to do that (and rebuild) than to alter its technology. I was conscious that the
exhibition time-span was part of the last days of the building, and that added
to the poignancy. The block now gone was opposite the site of the former Mirror
newspaper building, where I worked in the late 80s. (It was pulled down, and is
now a Sainsbury's.).
