medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Er, Phyllis, what is your source for the view that W.'s Heidenheim was
in Baden-Württemberg (Heidenheim an der Brenz in today's
Regierungsbezirk Stuttgart??) and not the one in Bavaria in today's
Regierungsbezirk Mittelfranken? The latter is near Eichstätt, whither
Walburga's remains were translated in the later ninth century (hence
Reginald of Eichstätt's interest in the saints of this family) and is
usually given as the site of the monastery in question.
Best,
John Dillon
PS: It would be beyond the remit of this list to observe that
Heidenheim an der Brenz, though not perhaps connected with these
Anglo-Saxon saints, is at least famous as having been the birthplace of
the World War II German field marshal Erwin Rommel (d. 1944). So I
shall not observe this.
