The update code indeed only works from the most recent version. The
version you are using is so old it's probably not worth us trying to
figure out why that feature is not working for you (I'd have to re-create
the release from scratch because I think ones that old have been cleared
from the disk long ago). I'd definitely recommend an upgrade. You could
just put a copy of Analysis on your local disk (and then remove when the
whole site upgrades). And there can be problems with backwards
compatibility. We try to make the readers backwards compatible but that
is somewhere where bugs tend to be more common, because it's hard to test
all possibilities. If you have any problems then we want to know about
it.
A possible alternative is to edit the top-level project XML file. Paths
for data files consist of a Url (the front part of the path) and a
DataLocation (the last part of the path). A typical DataLocation looks
like:
<DataLocation _ID="_89" serial="1" url="_90">
<path>edl387_5.spc</path>
</DataLocation>
and that says that its associated Url is _90 and that one therefore will
look something like (the _ID must match that _90):
<Url _ID="_90" serial="4" protocol="file" name="dataLocation">
<path>/Users/wb104/edl387</path>
<dataLocations _IDREF="_89"/>
</Url>
Now if the DataLocation path (here edl387_5.spc) is wrong that can just be
changed directly with no worries. But if the Url path (here
/Users/wb104/edl387) is wrong then you have to be more careful. If the
only entry under the path for the Url is your DataLocation (which is the
case in the example here) then you can also edit that without worry. But
if there is another DataLocation or any Storages listed then you cannot
edit the path with impunity. You can only do so if that path is wrong and
is the same for all those DataLocations and Storages. So that's rather
complicated.
