You may have been misled by Howard Colvin's mysterious statement on p.128 of
Vol.1 of the 'History of the King's Works': "and the figure of 'some
military saint like St. Eustace' which similarly stood guard over his bed in
the Painted Chamber at Westminster." This isn't mentioned in the subsequent
discussion of the Painted Chamber, and seems to be a misunderstanding of
some kind. (Or two kinds: mistaking a wall painting for a wooden panel, and
misidentifying the wall painting.)
