italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
On the US of A, try Manlio Cecovini's novel, Straniero in paradiso, Trieste,
Lint, 1970, set in the 1950s.
For fun, I suggest Giovanni Finzi-Contini's Mai puł come prima, Sarajevo! Diari
di viaggio, Marsilio 2000. Perhaps too late for you.
If the author's name sets bells ringing, he also wrote Il pił lungo viaggio di
A.M., Giuntina, 1990, an old man's journey across Bologna on a hand-cart, but
also recalling the life of a Jewish family in Ferrara, mainly but not
exclusively in the fascist period.
Auguri di buona lettura,
Brian.
