On the question of classes, I wonder whether non-semantic HTML
markup like span and div ought to be reserved for this sort of RDF
construct. I haven't thought this through very deeply, but following
your example[1]:
<p id="ian">
I am a <span id="rdf-type" class="foaf-Person">person</span>
</p>
That restriction would prohibit the DC title in span examples on the
same page, but I think there are other ways to represent those
cases.
This distinction may help people grasp rules about which type of
data should go where, which is important when one learns a new
language, especially when the possibilities are as broad as with
RDF. As well as covering the scope of RDF, this approach needs
to steer users in the right direction.
Best regards,
Phil
