This is being posted to ordnancemaps and to lis-maps, so apologies for
cross-posting: if anyone knows any other list or group which might be
interested, then please forward it.
Two new 1:100,000 maps covering the whole of Cornwall and most of Devon (west
of Exeter) have just been published by croydecycle (www.croydecycle.co.uk).
They are the work of Mike Harrison, who about seven years ago produced a
1:100,000 map of Herefordshire, mainly aimed at cyclists but usable by others,
which was reviewed in the Charles Close Society's Sheetlines (no.54, April
1999, pp 5-6), and is noticed also in my article on maps for cycle-touring in
the Cartographic Journal (Vol 38, no.1 (2001), 48-60). The style and content
is very similar to the Herefordshire map, the main differences being the
colouring of the main roads, and compilation from out of copyright OS mapping,
suitably updated on the ground.
These maps are very strongly recommended both to those with a particular
interest in 1:100,000 and similar scale mapping and to those who enjoy good
clear modern mapping. The road classification is straightforward; contours are
at 30 metre intervals; and the general mapping at 1:100,000 is supplemented by
larger scale insets of urban areas. The packing-in of information is something
of a tour de force.
The maps cost 4.00 pounds each (i.e. 8 pounds for the set of two), plus 2.00
postage (i.e. 10.00 pounds for the pair, by post), and are available from:
croydecycle, Rose Cottage, St Mary's Road, Croyde, Braunton, Devon, EX33 1PF.
