Hi everyone,
I have been testing out the dCache upgrade from 1.5.{2,3} to 1.6.6 . This
is just a quick summary of what I have done. I will put more detailed
notes in the wiki. This should be able to act as the update that I would
give to the storage meeting next Wednesday (apologies for not being able
to be there).
1. GDBM -> postgreSQL
There were a few issues about the postgres upgrade that I had to deal with
(configuration files etc), but after some contact with the dCache
developers, these seem to have been sorted and the migration was
succesful (i.e. no data lost).
2. dCache 1.6.6
The upgrade of the dCache software is fairly simple. dcache-opt has been
removed, all of the doors are now started by dcache-core. It reads the
/opt/d-cache/etc/door_config file to know which ones to open. The default
door names are now SRM-`hostname -s`, GFTP-`hostname -s` etc. Also, if you
performed any configuration of the /opt/d-cache/config/*.batch files, you
will need to re-apply the changes. The web monitoring front page has
changed and now includes more information, but pages like Cell Services,
Action Log etc remain the same. The log files stay in the same place
(/opt/d-cache/log/) but there are now more of them :( They also changed
the names so that (e.g.) pnfs.log is now pnfsDomain.log .
SRM is operational, so essentially the dCache is working. I've not had a
chance to test out anything else yet. I'll play about with it some more
and try and setup some more advanced configuration.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Greig
