Curator: 19th Century Imperial and Maritime Studies
National Maritime Museum

27,500 - 32,336 + benefits.

Imperial and maritime studies are central to our ambitious and exciting
plans for the future. As well as a brand new Centre for Imperial and
Maritime Studies opening in Spring 2006, we'll be launching a suite of
galleries to explore the diverse histories and shared legacies of
Britain's maritime empire. Together, these significant initiatives will
drive our mission to illustrate for everyone the importance of the sea,
ships, time and the stars and their relationship with people.

Your role will be at the heart of our plans, as you research and interpret
our extensive nineteenth-century collections for today's audiences.
Working with colleagues across the Museum in a project team environment,
you will champion an inclusive approach to the development and
interpretation of collections that engages and inspires members of the
wider community.

In academic terms, we are looking for a relevant postgraduate degree and
work already published or prepared for publication. Although your
specialisation might not be maritime or naval history, you will have the
ability to build an in-depth knowledge of the collection as you place the
subject in a broader imperial cultural, political and social context.
Equally importantly, you must be a strong communicator with an active
interest in working with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds.

Bring us your commitment, and we'll give you a unique opportunity to
extend your expertise as you bridge the past and present in new and
innovative ways.
