Assistant Professor, Anthropology (Historical Archaeology preferred)
Qualifications:
- General archaeologist, able to link archaeology to broader
interpretations of the human experience, past and present.
- Geographic and topical areas open, preferably in areas that complement
the offerings in cultural anthropology. Historic archaeology, including
mission studies preferred.
- Ability to develop practice-oriented programs in such areas as museum
studies, interpretation of material culture, or cultural resource
management, including locally based projects that can involve students.
Other appropriate specialties considered.
- Competence in curational standards and ability to curate and manage
archaeological collections in compliance with the Native American Grave
Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) guidelines.
- Demonstrated appropriate technical competence such as in geographic
information systems, computer assisted spatial technologies, or database
management.
- Ph.D. in Anthropology or a closely related field (Ph.D. completed before
position begins)
- Evidence of teaching excellence and demonstrated research potential.
Must be able to teach and coordinate general education courses and upper-
division anthropology courses. Substantial related teaching experience
required to a diverse student population.
- Applicants should have awareness of and sensitivity to the educational
goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-
cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
Responsibilities:
·Teach and develop undergraduate courses in the appropriate topical and
area specialties, including general education courses. Must be able to
develop a local research/practice project that complements pedagogy.
·Advise undergraduate students in anthropology and behavioral science.
·Maintain an active research program of interest to undergraduates and
selected graduate students.
·Curate and manage archaeological collections in compliance with NAGPRA
guidelines
·Normal participation on departmental, college and university committees.
Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great
diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and
academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies and
advisement.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
