1.2 Policy Board news

2. Association events

2.1 ALT-C 2006: the next generation
5-7 September 2006, Edinburgh
The conference is for practitioners and researchers from all sectors 
involved in learning technology, as well as those new to the field. The 
conference welcomes research papers for publication in the peer-reviewed 
Proceedings of ALT-C 2006, as well as short papers, symposia, workshops, 
demonstrations and posters.

3.1 Higher Education Academy: E-learning benchmarking exercise

3.2 JISC ITT: Tender for Participants in a Framework Agreement to deliver 
consultancy work for the e-Framework
Programme
This Framework Agreement will be in place from January 2006 to July 2007. 
The total value of all contracts issued under this Agreement will not 
exceed £100,000. Tenders to participate in the Framework Agreement should 
be submitted no later than 1300 hours on Monday 5th December 2005.

3.3 JISC ITT: Develop and/or demonstrate toolkits within the E-Learning 
Framework (ELF)
... proposals to:
a) DEVELOP A NEW TOOLKIT   - to produce software development kits (known 
as E-Learning Framework (ELF) Toolkits) that enable developers to create
applications that 'Provide Services' and 'Consume Services' as defined 
within the e-Learning Framework.

b) DEVELOP AN EXISTING TOOLKIT - to trial (that is install, test, 
demonstrate, evaluate and contribute to), the use of one or more of the
ELF Toolkits.

6.4 JISC issues call to preserve online journals
An extended pilot will see the LOCKSS system, devised at Stanford 
University, deployed in selected libraries in the UK from January 2006. 
LOCKSS - 'Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe' - is a low-cost system that 
preserves access to a library's online journals in a local 'LOCKSS box' 
in a manner acceptable to publishers. A town meeting will be held in 
London on the 2nd December to which all interested libraries and 
publishers are invited.

6.5 CIT Infobits
- is an electronic service of the University of North Carolina at Chapel 
Hill ITS Center for Instructional Technology. Each month the CIT's

educators.
