medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Not in the centre of interest of 'medieval religion', but it might be
interesting for the text-orientated among us:
"The European Society for Textual Scholarship, founded in 2001, provides an
international and interdisciplinary forum for the theory and practice of
textual scholarship in Europe. After three successful colloquia in Leicester
(England), Antwerp (Belgium) and Copenhagen (Denmark) and a first conference
in Alicante (Spain) last year, the second ESTS conference on the theme
"Histories of Editions" will be held in Amsterdam (Netherlands) on December
16-17, 2005.
The conference will focus on the ways in which specific texts have been
edited throughout history. The aim of the conference is to chart tendencies
that mark different periods in the history of scholarly editing by examining
the evolution of editing older and classic texts by authors like Plato,
Dante, Chaucer, Avicenna, as well as "modern" classics as Goethe, Schiller,
Joyce etc. Most contributions follow the editorial tradition of a text,
either within a specific historical period or leading up to the present day,
including new developments in electronic editing. However there will also be
attention to the history of editing practice during specific historical eras
and the question wether it might be necessary during certain periods to
distinguish different editorial traditions in different parts of Europe will
be adressed."
