Hi,
I'm a second year trainee on the Salomons doctoral course in clinical
psychology and I am looking for a clinician or researcher who might be
interested in talking through my disseration ideas, recommending related
reading or in taking on the role of back-up supervisor. As part of our
disseration, we have to submit a journal article for publication and this
would lead to co-authorship and will mean that my research actually has the
chance of making a difference...
I am hoping to do a community psychology study in collaboration with a
community organisation, Groundwork, based in Islington, London. They are
launching a project over the next few months which will work
intergenerationally with 'at risk' youth and older adults living on the
Market Estate in Islington. The aim is to use heritage to help the two
groups to better engage and to feel more attached to and involved with
their community.
I am hoping to do an ethnographic or action research study which looks at
some of the experiences of the young people who take part in the project.
I am keen for it to be very collaborative and possibly to involve some of
the young people in the interviewing. I am meeting with the project
coordinator in a couple of weeks to futher discuss the possibilities and to
develop my research hypotheses.
I am extremely excited about this piece of work as it is in an area about
which I feel quite passionate. We spend far too much time picking people
up too late, in my opinion. It will also be nice to do a piece of work
that is so collaborative in nature and in which the researcher is not
the 'expert'. It can be quite tricky to find literature in this area,
however, as it is a relatively undevelopped and pioneering area.
