medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (27. September) is the feast day of:
Sigebert (d. 637) Sigebert was an East Anglian prince who became a
Christian while in exile in Francia. He was recalled and set about
converting his people. After some years S. abdicated to become a
monk. But in 636 Penda of Mercia attacked, and S. was asked to leave
the monastery to lead the East Anglian army. He did so, but insisted
on remaining unarmed. He died on the battlefield.
Laurence of Ripafratta (blessed) (d. 1457) Laurence was a Dominican
who became a strong supporter of Raymund of Capua in his reform
efforts. He was a teacher, rigorous friar, and general holy man.
His cult was confirmed in 1851.
