Home-grown: the technologies and economies of housing
Professor Susan J. Smith, Ms. Nicole Cook, Dr. Heather Lovell and Dr.
Beverley Searle invite you to two workshops in Durham exploring the
intersection of housing with: science and technology studies; and the
cultural economy of markets
11-12 October 2005 (flyer attached).
Workshop 1: Housing Research and Science and Technology Studies
Tuesday 11 October 2005,10am-4.00pm
Co-ordinated by: Dr Heather Lovell
The seminar considers the application of science and technology studies
(STS) theories within housing research. Building on a growing body of work
using STS concepts to investigate housing, this interdisciplinary seminar
will bring together for the first time, those working on issues of crime,
health, 'smart' housing, the environment, and housing markets, using STS
theory.
Workshop 2: Banking on Housing: spending the home
Wednesday 12 October 2005,10am-4.30pm
A project for the ESRC/AHRC Cultures of Consumption Programme
Drawing on the results of the first phase of a new research project this
workshop will provide a glimpse of everything you need to know about
housing wealth…Meet the sustained saver, the sassy spender, the careful
consumer and others, as they shed new light on the world of financial
services. And join our roundtable discussion to identify the right
questions for the next phase of this study: what are the hot topics
regarding the housing wealth of owner occupiers?
