This has not been answered adequately and I suspect part of the reason
for this is that it is not clear. I have not seen a good explanation.
Some of the experiments have been considering their requirements as part
of the ongoing Service Challenge 3 work (see here
https://uimon.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LCG/LCGServiceChallenges under
experiment plans). Nevertheless it is still not a very well defined
area. The first indication of a need for VO Boxes came out of the LCG
Baseline Services group discussions
(http://lcg.web.cern.ch/LCG/peb/bs/BSReport-v1.0.pdf) but the details
were seen as future work and the boxes themselves as temporary solutions
until greater functionality could be incorporated into the middleware.
There are a number of requests with each of the experiments to clarify
their requirements. In the meantime we have been trying to discover what
is acceptable to us in the area of deployment. Thus Steve's summary
presented more general restrictions and conditions than a good
explanation of what was being requested. The discussions (I believe
another is being planned for the second day) at the EGEE operations
workshop will hopefully enable progress on what sites can do in this
area but I am concerned that questions like yours will remain unanswered
with little experiment input (you already note the overlap with an ATLAS
week).
