Following a thread I uncovered in preparing a paper involving historical
metal-working I have found myself needing to know a lot more about
lead-silver mining in England and Wales in the early 16th century - I 've
been reading the Hoover translation of De Re Metallica, Lewis' book on Lead
mining in Wales (and more besides). But I get the impression that this is a
topic where a lot of what is known may not be in print. I am particularly
interested in local documentary evidence associated with lead-silver mines
in Wales and the North and I noticed that last year there was a thread on
this list on 16th century mining leases. I've already come across the
commissions in the Letters & Papers of Henry VIII - but from my viewpoint
those involved in the Tudor metal industry are notable for not writing it
down! Or maybe it was just that those in the central administration didn't
keep it...
I look forward very much to hearing from you
