Well I saw Adrian late there this afternoon, albeit he missed most of it,
sadly I did not have much time to talk to him,
I was there, I was one of the seminar presenters and I did challenge those
presenters with a curebie and eugenic agenda.
What is more by being on the inside and showing my video, which is quite
unlike anything that is usually seen at such events, I had something
positive to say about being myself and holding to my way.
And yes the NAS has herd of DANDA. for heaven sakes, two DANDA members are
on the Council of the NAS, and although I am not a DANDA member I support my
neuro diverse colleagues on the Council and speak out on the board about
those things I am not happy with within the NAS, and as I said at the
international conference too, never mind what it cost me to be there, as
presenter or not I was not paid for it.
Colin I would have liked to have seen you there protesting against the more
medical model and eugenic speakers, who incedently were from the US and
Canada. where the appreciation of Neurodiversity (especially in Canada) is
not what it ought to be.
Some of the other speakers at the conference are much more aware of the
values that we have, and there were some positive presentations. You should
know that I do not subscribe to medical models, I am for autistic and neuro
diverse pride and I against everything that the cure and eugenics rhetoric
stands for.
Whatever you and others may think of me being there on the inside, this
conference, though a very long way from being perfect was better than the
last one, and nothing like the curebie, pity, medical model fests that are
held elsewhere in the world. I tried wherever I could to engage and change
that curebie model, while I was there.
