ALT and the Learning and Skills Development Agency (LSDA) will be
holding a conference in London for FE and Adult and Community
Learning practitioners and leaders. The conference will showcase
successful e-learning implementations, in a way which will help
participants:
* learn from organisations which are presenting at the event;
* apply the lessons in their own organisation.

2.2 ALT workshop
Edublogs: the educational use of weblogs, weblogging tools and really
simple syndication (RSS)

This timely workshop addresses the current theory and practice
surrounding the use of weblogs and RSS (Really Simple Syndication)
within a variety of educational settings. Weblogs, which most
popularly appear in the form of online journals, have heralded a new
era in personal publishing but what do these new tools offer in terms
of enhancing the learning and teaching process? What are the
advantages to combining them with technologies such as RSS news
feeds?

3. Invitations to tender
3.1 The HE Academy subject network for Information and Computer
Sciences
Tranche 4 of the subject Development Fund
Proposals for funding should be made using the downloadable
Application Form which is available in either PDF or Word format from
http://www.ics.heacademy.ac.uk/Devfund/index.shtml. Applications may
be submitted either on paper or electronically. In 2005-06 £35,000
has been allocated to support small development projects within the
ICS community. The maximum funding available for any single project
should not exceed £3,000.

3.2 JISC Circular 6/05: Large Scale Implementation of Innovative
Technologies within Institutions
...expressions of interest invited around the three key areas of
mobile learning, gaming technologies and physical learning spaces in
response to an educational challenge within an institution. Projects
will be required to work in collaboration with a named UK educational
research laboratory to explore the impact of introducing the
technology on the learning and teaching processes, and the associated
organisational issues. Funding of up to £300,000 in total is
available for up to three projects to run over a period of no longer
than two years starting in January 2006. Deadline: 13:00 hours on
Friday 14 October 2005.

4.1 Minerva action of Socrates (pre-proposal deadline: 1 November)
A European project on the use of new technologies and of authentic
audio and video in teaching, in particular the teaching of foreign
languages, seeks partners. The project is based on the use of digital
audio archives (repositories) containing original and authentic
material of significant cultural, social or linguistic value. We hope
to identify partners (universities, research centres, cultural
associations and radio networks) with a strong commitment to making
digital collections available for educational purposes or to
developing and testing innovative collaborative tools based on these
media.
