Yeah. I often read them too myself two or three times beefore sending to
make them shorter and more clearly (?) phrased !

Perhaps I should clarify that what Rob means is "independently working as
if..." I certainly do not think that archaeologists should be putting on
their wellies every time a detectorist wants to go out and do some artefact
hunting. And my preference would be if they came to this of their own
volition and as a result of deeper reflection about the effects of what they
are doing in a wider context - rather than coercion
