Thanks - it is good to see that the Iraq bombings are also the subject of protest, although we would need more than Thursday and Saturday to remember more than 100,000 dead at the hands of our troops...

London bombings: Remembering the victims
Upcoming vigils and events in response to the bombings of 7th July
THURSDAY 14 JULY
The Mayor of London, in partnership with the TUC and community groups,
has called for a series of events in London:
AT NOON, millions of Londoners will observe 2 minutes' silence. Every
bus in the city will stop, businesses will stop and people are asked to
come out of their workplaces and homes onto the streets of London to
remember those who died and to show their complete defiance of the
terrorists.
AT 1PM, books of condolences will be opened in Trafalgar Square for all
Londoners and visitors to the city to sign.
AT 6PM, Londoners are invited to a vigil in Trafalgar Square to remember
those who died and to thank the heroes of transport and emergency
services who saved so many lives last Thursday.
Peace group Justice Not Vengeance <http://www.j-n-v.org> (JNV) is
calling on anti-war activists to form a silent peace section at this
vigil and is asking anti-war activists to come with white armbands, and
no banners, to immediately in front of the National Gallery facing
Trafalgar Square, at 6pm. (Mobile on the day: 07980 748 555).

SUNDAY 17TH JULY
London: London Solidarity Gathering, 2pm, Sunday 17th July, Russell
Square. In solidarity with the families of the dead and injured and in
opposition to the racism and Islamophobia which have resulted since
Thursday's attacks. Jointly organised by Stop the War Coalition and the
Muslim Association of Britain. Download PDF flyer at www.stopwar.org.uk

Manchester: 'United in Grief - United for Peace'. Vigil to remember the
victims of the London bombings. Sunday 17th July, 12.00 noon, Peace
Gardens (next to Manchester Town Hall). Please bring rainbow peace flags
and wear armbands bearing the message of Peace. This vigil has been
organised by a coalition of faith communities across the North West.
Supported by Manchester & District CND and Greater Manchester Coalition
to Stop the War.
Islam is not to blame: Suggestions for a Muslim solidarity vigil
Justice Not Vengeance <http://www.j-n-v.org> is proposing that at
lunchtime on Friday 16 July or some other Friday, anti-war groups hold
silent vigils outside mosques and Muslim community venues to remember
those who have suffered and who are suffering in the London bombings,
and in the wider 'war on terror', and to express our solidarity with
Muslims.
JNV suggest beginning the vigil at 1pm, lasting till 2pm. Prayers start
at 1.15pm.

Pressuring the media
JNV has inaugurated a project to send rapid-rebuttal letters to the
papers to counter the barrage of propaganda in the media's commentary on
the London bombings eg. responding to those who deny the link between
British foreign policy and the willingness of some Muslims to
participate in anti-Western terrorism. See
http://www.j-n-v.org/London_Blasts/L_B_rapid_rebuttal_letter-writing.htm.
Media review
JNV is also providing a daily Review of the broadsheets media coverage
of the bombings and their aftermath. Recent articles include: 'Answering
Aaronovitch' and 'How the British newspapers misrepresent the nature of
the threat'. See www.j-n-v.org <http://www.j-n-v.org>.
Counter Terror Build Justice DVD (20 mins)
Produced by JNV and written and directed by activist and author Milan
Rai (Chomsky's Politics, War Plan Iraq, Regime Unchanged) - and
featuring Bruce Kent, as well as a host of Vox Pops ' CTBJ explains
clearly why the UK Government's 'war on terror' is not only wrong but is
actually endangering UK citizens. By showing how al-Qaeda draws upon
legitimate grievances to create a reservoir of support, it also
indicates what a real 'counter-terrorism' strategy, draining that
reservoir, would actually involve.
