ODPM/ESRC Studentship- Are country towns and villages sustainable environments for older people?
This fully funded studentship which includes a premium of £2,000 per annum above the standard ESRC award, is available from October 2005 in the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, University of Newcastle. The project will explore the phenomenon of older people moving to northern country towns and villages and seek to establish how these places might enhance their quality of life. The successful applicant will be expected to have well developed qualitative research skills and be capable of working with key institutional actors and older people. Candidates should ideally possess (by October) an ESRC recognised Masters degree or an equivalent research experience or training. The research will be supervised by Rose Gilroy and Tim Shaw. The successful applicant will be working in the rich multi disciplinary environment of the School and Global Urban Research Unit as well as linking into the Institute for Public Policy and the Institute of Ageing and Health.
