We have been told that there is a sale of "Fine
Printed Books and Manuscripts" by Christie's in the
morning of Tuesday 7 June 2005 which contains several
Kipling items. The details are:
Lot 67 - two autograph letters to Mr McNicholl of the
Allan Royal Mail Line. The first of these was
reproduced in Jnl #304, Dec 2002, pp.18-21. The second
is a covering letter for a gift copy of "The Brushwood
Boy". Estimate £400-600
Lot 68 - Typed signed contract 15 Oct 1912 between RK
and Roland Pertwee re the dramatisation of "The Return
of Imray" which was put on at the Court Theatre 26
June 1914. Estimate £500-800
Lot 390 - "In Black and White", Allahabad, 1st Edn.
Presentation copy "F.G. from R.K: Jan '90". Estimate
£300-500. [My comment:- could the "F.G." be Flo
Garrard?]
Lot 391 - "The Jungle Book" and "The Second Jungle
Book". 1st Edns. Includes RK's carte de cisite with on
one side a drawing of a branch and a quatrain
beginning 'To the land of little children, where the
babies rule the day', signed and dated "Rudyard
Kipling. On the way to Japan. Ap/93. Empress of
India." Estimate £700-1,000
