Following Elizabeth's post -- another LOM related question for the list from DownUnder:
We at the NSW Dept of Education and Training are developing a LOM application profile covering schools and vocational education and training (VET) resources.
I am having trouble deciding when to use the different LOM Purposes (LOM 9.1) under the Classification element (discipline, educational objective, competency, etc.)
Specifically, when describing the related school syllabus, curriculum area or key learning area for a resource, what is the appropriate Classification Purpose? Is syllabus, etc. a "discipline"? Is it an "educational objective". Is it a "competency"? UKLOM seems to recommend "discipline". CanCore seems to imply "educational objective".
On the VET curriculum front: "competency" as a Purpose fits well our VET resources that relate to National Competency Codes. But what about other aspects of VET curriculum: related Module Codes, Course Codes, Training Packages? Are these also "competency" or are they "discipline" or "educational objective"?
Any suggestions, opinions would be most welcome!
Many thanks
