Hello,

[log in to unmask], the email discussion group of the
European Federation of Therapeutic Communities, and [log in to unmask] -
Therapeutic Community Open Forum, the email discussion list with web
extensions sponsored by the Association of Therapeutic Communities, Planned
Environment Therapy Trust, Charterhouse Group of Therapeutic Communities,
and Community of Communities - have joined resources to create "Open
Sources: An Online Therapeutic Community Library".

What are the resources these two groups bring together? Well, if you've
read this far - and chances are you have - you are. We are. Any member of
the groups who

1) Has been touched, excited, changed, informed, helped, inspired, or
otherwise grabbed by a book or article on therapeutic community, and feel
others might be as well (send an email to [log in to unmask] giving the
details - or go to http://www.tc-of.net/webex/webex8.htm and fill in the
form); and/or

2) Has come across a publication relating to therapeutic community on the
Internet - or is willing to spend some time on the computer searching for
them (email the URL to [log in to unmask], or go to
http://www.tc-of.net/webex/webex8.htm and fill in the second form); and/or

3) Holds copyright in a publication relating to therapeutic community that
they would be willing to have uploaded to the Internet (send details and
the text - in digital form if possible - to [log in to unmask], or send
the details via the form at http://www.tc-of.net/webex/webex8.htm); or

4) Would be willing to help
a) By tracking down copyright holders, and seeking their permission to
web-ify and upload their material to the Internet;
b) By sitting down at the computer and transforming hard-copy texts into
digital form, and/or into html (instruction available!)
c) By sitting down at the computer and typing publication details into the
Library catalogue (see http://www.tc-of.net/webex/webex8-lista.htm -
instruction available!);

and/or

5) Is willing to tell others about the Project, and to help this unique
resource to grow.

The aim is to build a comprehensive list of articles, essays, reports,
books, interviews or other published media (films, audio cassettes, video,
DVD...) related to Therapeutic Community, to provide links to those which
are already available on the Internet, to work together to develop a wish
list of Online resources, and to continue working together to turn that
wish list into a reality. It will include works in every language; and will
be open to previously unpublished material, if the author is willing for it
to be published in this way. It is an open, non-profit operation, dependent
on volunteers and goodwill: the main source of "funding" being the
generosity and willingness of list members to contribute their time, their
discoveries, and their enthusiasm to creating a resource for themselves
and others involved in (or simply interested in) therapeutic community. We
will be seeking grants and financial support, but the backbone of Open
Sources is us - hundreds of networked people around the
world who send in a reference or a URL, and perhaps even find time to help
in other ways.

For the Beta version of the Project web-site, go to
http://www.tc-of.net/webex/webex8.htm .

If you are a librarian, or if your community, institution or organization
has a library which others can use, look at the list at
http://www.tc-of.net/webex/webex8-lista.htm or
http://www.tc-of.net/webex/webex8-bibliographies.htm . Let us know at
[log in to unmask] if you have any of the items there, or any other
appropriate publications . Include your contact details, opening hours, and
any other information on how and when people can arrange to use them, and
that will be included in the online listing.

All the best,

Open Sources Working Group:
Dennie Briggs, Craig Fees, Kevin Healy, David Kennard, Ian Milne, Rowdy Yates
